Public policy on chronic disease

The Alliance for the Prevention of Chronic Disease believes that public policy on chronic disease prevention must include the development of a sufficient and sustainable province wide primary prevention system that is:
- interconnected and aligned
- responsive to community needs, with community-directed and led activities
- based on providing access to healthier choices and environments, especially for vulnerable populations
- evidence-informed, acknowledging that evidence includes traditional "science" and demonstrated program-based, practical knowledge
Key elements of such a policy must include proactive measures on the common modifiable risk factors: unhealthy eating, physical inactivity, and smoking.
